Sept 13: Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) said it plans to set up a 4,000-MW thermal power project in Tamil Nadu, with an investment of around Rs 20,000 crore.
"...the Board has accorded in-principle approval for setting up a coal-based power project with an overall capacity of 4,000 MW at Sirkali in Tamil Nadu at an estimated cost of around Rs 20,000 crore," NLC Chairman A R Ansari said in an address to shareholders at company's annual general meeting.
The project would be implemented in two phases of 2000 MW each, he said, adding that the company has approached the state government for according administrative sanction to acquire required lands.
The company, Ansari said, also plans to set up a 250-MW thermal power plant and develop a mine in Rajasthan with nearly Rs 2300 crore investment.
