‘Future court intervention in auction not ruled out’

January 19: The government does not rule out intervention by the court in future on the process adopted for auctioning of coal blocks, a senior official said.
“We are vetting each document and the processes. But we cannot rule out court intervention. That’s something in a democracy which you can never rule out,” Secretary (Coal) Anil Swarup said in Kolkata.
He was replying to a question on whether the government has vetted the rules for auction, so that 4-5 years down the line, a court would not find fault with the system and rule that this should not have been done.
“We are very clear in our mind about what we are doing and everything is based on reason and law. Everything is getting vetted. You can rest assured on that front. But you cannot be assured in terms of judicial intervention, which can still happen,” Swarup said.
