‘Grade slippage leading to non-lifting of coal by utilities’
28 May 2014
May 28: The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has alleged that grade slippage in coal supplied by some subsidiaries of Coal India Ltd (CIL) has caused non-lifting of the material by thermal power plants in the country.
Several power utilities, including NTPC, Mahagenco, RVUNL and GSECL, in the recent past, declined to lift lower grade coal allotted to them by various CIL subsidiaries, CEA said in a statement.
For instance, coal supplied by South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL) has a slippage of 3-5 grades against the declared variety, it said.
“SECL (Korea-Reva) coal is high grade …and so much slippage in grade is not acceptable to power stations as this places them lower in the merit of scheduling,” it added.
