‘Washery rejects linkages only via SLC-LT’
10 Nov 2014
November 10: The Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) working on a policy on coal rejects allocation for washery rejects-based power plants, has decided that such long-term linkages will be granted only through the Standing Linkage Committee-Long Term (SLC-LT) route. For this purpose, necessary amendment to the notification regarding the mandate of the SLC-LT would be required, the panel further said.
The meeting also arrived at the conclusion that applications for grant of long-term linkages of coal rejects (washery by-products) would be invited as and when new Coal India (CIL) washeries came up, generating more rejects in their aftermath.
At present, washery rejects from CIL amount to a modest 1.3 million tons per annum and are sold via the e-auction route.
The committee also said the Ministry of Power (MoP) and CIL would encourage setting up of washeries along with rejects-based power plants so that the rejects can be consumed in-situ (on site) and cut out the need to transport the same over long distances.
