14 Coal India washeries to be in operation by Sept ’17

December 15: Almost all the 15 new washeries planned to be set up by Coal India Ltd (CIL) are likely to be operational by September 2017, subject to obtaining of land, forestry and environmental clearances, Coal Minister Piyush Goyal has said.
The status of one washery – Ashoka – is not clear because of litigation and the matter is sub-judice, he said.
Of the total 15 new washeries, with a total washing capacity of 112.6 million tons (mt) of coal per annum, nine are planned for washing of non-coking coal with a capacity of 94 mt and six are coking coal washeries of capacity of 18.6 mt, the minister said.
“Tenders have so far been invited for 12 washeries, including 6 non-coking coal washeries,” Goyal said.
