Central China’s Hunan province has newly identified 18.4 million tonnes of coal reserves at Furong mine in Jinzhushan mining area recently after more than a year’s efforts, the provincial Coal Administration said on September 7.
Hunan ranked the 18th in coal reserves across the country, and coal accounted for 70% of the total primary energy consumption in the province.
Presently, coal mines across the province amounted to 561, with combined capacity at 43.92 million tonnes per annum. Of this, coal mines owned by provincial government stood at 43, with annual capacity at 7.73 million tonnes.
The province aimed to close over 65 outdated small coal mines and control operating mines below 500 in 2015, and would not approve any new coal mines construction in the future five years, the local government said during a meeting in June.
Hunan consumed nearly 100 million tonnes of coal in the first half of the year, falling 13.4% on year.
