2 in fray for IWAI tender for movement of coal via waterways

September 13: Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has received two technical bids for transportation of coal along the 1,000-km long stretch (between Sagar Island/Haldia, West Bengal, and Barh, Bihar) of the 1,620-km long National Waterway No 1 (NW 1).
The two companies which have placed bids are Jindal ITF and a consortium of two firms, namely, M Pallonji & Company Pvt Ltd and Goa-based Sociedade de Fomento Industrial Pvt Ltd, a source said.
IWAI had floated a request for proposal (RFP) for movement of 3 million tons (mt) of imported coal annually for NTPC's power project at Barh in Bihar over a period of 10 years through inland waters from Paradip and Haldia ports to NTPC's Barh plant.
