20 TPPs receive excess supply of coal till Oct

November 14: Altogether, 20 thermal power plants (TPPs) received excess coal from domestic suppliers and imports compared to their requirements in April-October, 2014, according to data released by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) for 125 TPPs across the country.

For 5 TPPs, total supply from domestic and overseas sources matched their requirements during the period under consideration, the data showed.

However, for the majority of 93 TPPs, total supply fell short of requirements. Another 7 TPPs neither had any requirement, not received any coal during the period.

The western region had the highest number of plants facing shortages and also those having excess supply of coal, the data revealed.
