27 coal-laden trucks seized, 50 persons held

25 Mar 2015

East Khasi Hills police seized as many as 27 trucks and arrested 50 persons for illegally carrying coal at Mawryngkneng on Tuesday evening.
According to police, the action was taken following the complaints of illegal transportation of coal in violation of the NGT order.
Police said that the drive against the illegal transportation of coal would continue in the district.
The NGT in its recent hearing has come down heavily on civil and police officials for their laxity in checking the rampant illegal transportation of extracted coal in  parts of State.
Our Jowai correspondent adds: While conducting coal depot inspection by  B.J.Kharshandi EAC at 8th mile on Tuesday, one dumper truck (ASO1FC 7928) was found attempting to load coal from the depot of one Biangshwa Shylla of Shangpung village. The truck was seized and a case was registered against the driver Love Rabon of Shangpung village.
Meanwhile, a hearing on coal mining by NGT which was scheduled on Tuesday at Delhi was yet against postponed for Wednesday.
