2nd ship carrying 36,570 tons of coal for Payra power plant arrives

A
second ship carrying coal for the Payra Thermal Power Plant arrived at Payra
Port in Patuakhali early Sunday.
The
vessel ‘MB Pavo Brave’ with 36,570 tons of coal for the Payra Thermal Power
departed from Indonesia's Balikpapan port a week ago docked at Payra port early
Sunday.
Golam
Rabbani, a pilot at Payra port, brought the ship to the inner anchorage around
10:30am from the outer anchorage.
Payra
Port Traffic Division Deputy Director Azizur Rahman acknowledging the matter
and said it is the second ship that arrived at the port a month after the power
plant had to suspend production due to a coal shortage.
Georges
Talukder, executive engineer of the Payra Thermal Power Plant, said the coal
will be unloaded through lighter vessels. Later, the ship will be taken to the
Payra Thermal Power Plant jetty and the rest of the coal will be unloaded, he
added.
He claimed that at least 15 more ships carrying coal are set to arrive to
tackle the ongoing fuel crisis at the plant.
Meanwhile,
the 1,320MW Payra thermal power plant shut down on June 5 due to a shortage of
coal.
The
power plant resumed its production on June 25 after a vessel named MV Athena,
carrying 41,207 tons of coal, arrived at the port on June 22.
