40 power utilities received excess coal in June

July 31: A total of 40 power plants out of 121 in the country received coal in excess of their requirement during June 2014 whereas during the previous month this figure stood at 52, according to provisional data made available to ICMW by Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
During June 2014, the maximum volume of oversupply happened at Mundra thermal power station (TPS) where coal demand for the month stood at 0.672 mt while supply stood at 1.590 mt, indicating an excess supply of 0.918 mt, as per the data.
Similarly, in May 2014, amongst the power plants, the maximum volume of oversupply happened at Mundra TPS where coal demand for the month stood at 0.672 mt while supply stood at 1.543 mt, indicating an excess supply of 0.871 mt, the data shows.
Coal receipts by thermal power plants include domestic sources (Coal India Ltd and Singareni Collieries Company Ltd), imports and other sources.
