52 power utilities received excess coal in May

June 20: A total of 52 power plants out of 121 in the country received coal in excess of their requirement during May 2014 whereas during the previous month it stood at 50, according to provisional data made available to ICMW by Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
During May 2014, the maximum volume of oversupply happened at Mundra where coal demand for the month of May stood at 0.672 mt while supply stood at 1.543 mt, indicating an excess supply of 0.871 mt, as per the data.
Similarly, in April 2014, amongst the power plants, the maximum volume of oversupply also happened at Mundra where coal demand for the month stood at 0.690 mt while supply stood at 1.45 mt, indicating an excess supply of 0.765 mt.
