56 TPPs received excess supply of coal in December

30 Jan 2015

January 30: Altogether, 56 thermal power plants (TPPs) received excess coal from domestic sources and imports compared to their requirement in December 2014, according to data released by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) for 125 TPPs across the country.

Of the 56 stations, 31 TPPs received excess fuel from Coal India (CIL) and Singareni Collieries Company (SCCL), while the remaining 24 met the supply gap through other sources and imports, the data showed.

This shows a significant improvement in the domestic supply scenario. Till November, only 28 plants had received excess supply, of which 11 TPPs received excess coal from domestic sources, while 17 others met the supply gap through imports.

For 61 TPPs, however, total supply from domestic and imports fell short of requirement. This number, again, showed improvement over 97 TPPs which had faced short supply till November.

Among the four regions, west and north had the highest number of plants facing shortage (19). The western region also had the maximum number of plants enjoying excess supply (21), the data revealed.
