Six workers died in an
explosion at a coal mine in the Semnan province of northern Iran on Monday, as
reported by official media sources.
Iran's
state news agency, IRNA, stated,
"Six people lost their lives due to the explosion that occurred in the
eastern Alborz coal mine in the Tazarah region, which is part of Damghan city
in Semnan province."
The agency
further noted that the bodies of the six trapped workers were recovered from
within the mine.
The
incident took place within a tunnel at a depth of 400 meters. Video footage
released by the agency showed workers retrieving and transporting the bodies of
their colleagues from the scene.
Iran has
experienced sporadic accidents related to mining activities. In May 2021, two
miners lost their lives due to a collapse within the same mine.
In 2017, a
tragic incident in the Azad Shahar mine in northern Iran resulted in the deaths
of 43 workers, sparking criticism of the authorities.
Additionally,
18 people, mostly Iranian visitors, lost their lives in a road accident that
occurred north of Baghdad on Friday night, as confirmed by medical sources to
