72 coal exploration projects awaiting green nod
16 Dec 2014
December 16: Altogether 72 coal exploration projects in the country were awaiting Forestry Clearance as of November 2014 and the number is growing by the day, a top official of the Central Mine Planning & Design Institute (CMPDI) told ICMW.
“We are not getting forestry clearances. Altogether 72 cases are pending as of November and the number is growing every month. The (Union) government is trying to cope with it and hopefully something will be done,” said the official.
Noting that forestry approvals for exploration have nothing to do with violate and non-violate concepts, he said, “Before 2006, there was no Green hurdle for us. If such a policy is brought back, our job will be made much easier and the country will benefit.”
Meanwhile, Coal Secretary Anil Swarup has said that the issue will be resolved soon, he added.
