New User8 new projects to start production by 2016-17: MoC

August 1: Eight new coal mining projects with a cumulative capacity of 38.99 million tons (mt) under six subsidiaries of Coal India Limited (CIL) are expected to start production by 2016-17, said Piyush Goyal, Minister of state for Power, Coal & New and Renewable Energy (Independent Charge) on July 31.
The minister said that during the current Plan period, a total of 15 coal projects, including these eight projects, were sanctioned till July 2014. The combined capacity of the projects stands at 133.88 mt.
The government expects that another 47 ongoing coal projects sanctioned earlier are likely to contribute 58.62 mt of coal production in 2016-17 which is the terminal year of the 12th Five-Year Plan period.
The following table gives the details of the sanctioned coal projects during the 12th Plan and the projected production of eight new projects by 2016-17 (in million tons):
