December 4: A total of 12 existing mines of various subsidiaries of Coal India Ltd (CIL) have been according environmental clearance (EC) during the first eight months (April-November) of 2015-16, Coal Minister Piyush Goyal said in a written reply in parliament.
Twelve projects of Coal India Limited (CIL) have been accorded Environmental Clearance (EC) till December 1 of the current financial year, Piyush Goyal, Minister of State for Power, Coal & New and Renewable Energy said.
A total of 32.83 million tons (mt) of additional coal can be mined from the 12 projects following the grant of EC.
Of the total 12 mines, five were under Western Coalfields Ltd, two each were under South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL) and Eastern Coalfields Ltd (ECL) and one each in Northern Coalfields Ltd (NCL), Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) and Central Coalfields Ltd (CCL), he said.
Besides, EC, another four projects – one each from MCL, CCL, SECL and WCL- have been accorded Stage II Forestry Clearance (FC), the minister said.
