12 Sep 2019

OAL mining is an important business of the country. On August 28, the Union Cabinet has taken decision of bringing 100 per cent FDI in mining. The sector at present is having monopoly of Coal India Limited (CIL). Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) has opposed foreign direct investment (FDI) in coal mines and registered protest by wearing black badges, conducting gate meetings, demonstration etc. In the second phase, they had also demonstrated at all the regional head quarters against foreign direct investment in coal mines. A meeting of office-bearers Akhil Bharatiya Khadan Mazdoor Sangh (ABKMS) was held recently at Pathekheda (Madhya Pradesh).

The Government has taken such decision in a hurry without any discussion with the labour unions which not in favour of mine workers. Sudhir Dhurde, said, “There is fear and anger among the mine workers. We have served the notice of 5 days strike to the Coal Secretary of Government of India. Other unions have also been informed of one-day strike on September 24,” he said.
