APGENCO Srikakulam UMPP facing land hurdle

Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGENCO) is facing local resistance in acquisition of land for its proposed 4,000-MW ultra-mega power project (UMPP) in Srikakulam, a senior official from the utility told ICMW.
The proposed UMPP will have four units of 1,000 MW each and requires about 2,500 acres of land, but local resistance is slowing the process, he said.
The site of the project, which would cost APGENCO around Rs 24,000 crore, is near the sea coast.
“Sea coast is barely 6 km away from the proposed plant site. The location was chosen to make plenty of water available. But, local resistance is now making the land acquisition process difficult, thus causing delay to the mega project,” the source said.
