APGENCO aiming to add 2,200 MW capacity by 2019

10 Mar 2016

Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGENCO) would be adding thermal capacity of 2,200 MW within the next three years, a senior company official told ICMW.

The state power utility, which has a current thermal capacity of 4,410 MW, is setting up a 600-MW unit at Rayalseema thermal power project in Kadapa. The project would cost around Rs 3,600 crore and is expected to be commissioned by December 2016.

Two other units, each having a capacity of 800 MW, are coming up at Krishnapatam in Nellore district and at Narla Tatarao TPS in Vijayawada.

The detailed project reports for the two 800-MW plants are being prepared at an estimated cost of Rs 5,600 crore each. It is expected that both the units would be commissioned by 2019.

At present, APGENCO has 6 units of 210 MW each and one unit of 500 MW in Vijayawada. In Rayalseema, the utility has 5 units each of 210 MW capacity, while there are 2 units each of 800 MW in Krishnapatnam.
