APGENCO aiming to add 2,200 MW capacity by 2019

Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGENCO) would be adding thermal capacity of 2,200 MW within the next three years, a senior company official told ICMW.
The state power utility, which has a current thermal capacity of 4,410 MW, is setting up a 600-MW unit at Rayalseema thermal power project in Kadapa. The project would cost around Rs 3,600 crore and is expected to be commissioned by December 2016.
Two other units, each having a capacity of 800 MW, are coming up at Krishnapatam in Nellore district and at Narla Tatarao TPS in Vijayawada.
The detailed project reports for the two 800-MW plants are being prepared at an estimated cost of Rs 5,600 crore each. It is expected that both the units would be commissioned by 2019.
At present, APGENCO has 6 units of 210 MW each and one unit of 500 MW in Vijayawada. In Rayalseema, the utility has 5 units each of 210 MW capacity, while there are 2 units each of 800 MW in Krishnapatnam.
