APGENCO’s Oct steam coal imports just 25% of target

November 30: Steam coal imports by Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGENCO) in October 2015 stood at 64,000 tons, as per data available to ICMW.

 The October imports were just 25% of the targeted 250,000 tons set for the month by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).

It may be noted that there were no imports of steam coal by APGENCO in the last four months of 2015-16, as the chart below indicates.

The utility had last imported a small quantity of 8,000 tons of coal in May this year and prior to that, 90,000 tons in April.

 The utility had been given a target to import 1.75 mt coal in the first seven months of 2015-16, of which only 9.25% was met at 162,000 tons. However, this figure was an 87% decline over 1.21 mt received during the same period in the previous fiscal.
