Adani Power’s Dec coal imports 105% above target

At a time when most of the power utilities in the country are shying away from imported coal, Adani Power Ltd’s imports of the fuel for its plants in Tirora and Mundra during the month of December 2015 showed healthy volumes, according to provisional data of CEA.
Much of the increase in imports were on account of significantly higher imports for its Mundra UMPP.
The total imports by Adani Power for both its power plants in December 2015 stood at 1,396,000 tons, which was 104.73% of the target of 1,333,000 tons for the month.
Of the total imports during the month, the imports for Mundra UMPP stood at 1,228,000 tons against the target of 1,125,000 tons, while that for the Tirora plant stood at 168,000 tons against the target of 208,000 tons.
The power company’s coal imports during the first nine months (April-December) of 2015-16 stood at 14,649,000 tons, against the target of 12,000,000 tons set for the period. The imports during the period were higher by nearly 15% compared to 12,697,000 tons imported during the same period of 2014-15.
In December 2015, the total imports by the two plants stood at 1,396,000 tons (Tirora- 168,000 tons and Mundra 1,228,000 tons) against the target of 1.33 mt.
