Adani Power’s Nov coal imports 20% above target

At a time when most of the power utilities in the country are shying away from imported coal, Adani Power Ltd’s imports of the fuel for its plants in Tirora and Mundra during the month of November were more than 20% above the target, according to provisional data of CEA.
Much of the increase in imports were on account of significantly higher imports for its Mundra UMPP.
The total imports by Adani Power for both its power plants in November stood at 1.604 million tons (mt), higher by 20.33% compared to the target of 1.333 mt for the month.
Of the total imports during the month, the imports for Mundra UMPP stood at 1.508 mt against the target of 1.125 mt, while that for the Tirora plant stood at 96,000 tons against the target of 208,000 tons.
The power company’s coal imports during the first eight months (April-November) of 2015-16 stood at 12.15 mt, nearly 15% higher than the target of 10.61 mt. The imports during the period were higher by nearly 7% compared to 11.37 mt imported during the same period of 2014-15.
In October 2015, the total imports by the two plants stood at 1.69 mt (Tirora- 112,000 tons and Mundra 1.59 mt) against the target of 1.33 mt.
