Adani criticises legal challenge in Carmichael project
20 Jan 2015
January 20: Adani Enterprises criticised the legal challenge initiated by Mackay Conservation Group against the company’s Carmichael coal mine project in Australia and hopes that the challenge would conclude in its favour, the company said a statement on the BSE on January 19.
An official statement from the company said, “The legal challenge initiated by Mackay Conservation Group…is an act designed to frustrate progress on an approved project and reflects dissatisfaction with the minister’s (Federal Environment Minister Greg Hunt) decision rather than the genuine concern with regard to the assessment process.”
Earlier, the Carmichael coal mine project in central Queensland was approved by the minister in July 2014.
Recently, the Mackay Conservation Group has launched legal action in the Federal Court over the approval of the Bowen Basin mine.
“The assessment was taken in accordance with the terms of reference for the project, which included the required assessment of greenhouse emissions from the mine. There were multiple opportunities throughout the assessment process for all parties to make submission which were subsequently considered prior to the approval decision of the project,” the company statement said.
