Administration slaps Rs 2.75 crore fine on trucks carrying CCL coal

Taking strict action against Central Coalfield Limited (CCL) for facilitating overloading, the district administration has slapped fine of Rs 2.75 crore on 2,648 trucks and dumpers involved in transporting of its coal from the mines.

However, the administration believes that the figure of fine would further rise as many dumphers are of other states which are yet to be traced. DC, Bokaro, Umashanker Singh has taken such a strict action against transporters of CCL while acting on a special report submitted by SDO, Bermo, Rahul Kumar Sinha and district transport officer (DTO), Vijay Kumar Gupta.

DC asked the concerned officials to collect the fine from the defaulters at any cost. Overloading is unlawful and the vehicles caught violating law should be penalised. The unlawful practice of overloading come to fore following raid conducted by SDO in measuring centers under CCL projects on September, 26.

Sinha finding neglected attitude of police, transporters and CCL management to curb overloading of trucks and dumphers in ferrying coals in Bermo Sub-Division had conducted raids in the measuring centers (kataghar) under Dhori, Kargili and Amlo Coal Project of CCL here.

Sinha seized the registers from each measuring centers in which data related to trucks and dumphers that came for weighing after coal loading are maintained by staff. He later sent those registers to DTO for verifying the details. However, Gupta inquiring the register found that about 2648 dumphers and trucks were overloaded and imposed fine accordingly.

DC said based on the report, the fine would be charged by defaulters. He has directed CCL to stop the practice of overloading.
