Adriyala commercial production delayed by month

November 10: Commercial production at the Adriyala longwall underground mining project of Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) is likely to be delayed by a month to December on the back of recurrent power tripping due to a fault in its automated electrical system, according to information available with ICMW.
“For the last few days, the Adriyala project is facing power tripping. This could be due to long duration (of operation) or some technical snag. The equipment suppliers and engineers are attending to the problem,” a company official said.
As a result, the project is not expected to start commercial production before December, he said, adding that the current production is around 1,000 tons of coal per day.
Adriyala was test-launched in October and was earlier scheduled to start commercial production in the first week of November.
Due to the recurring problem, the company has also postponed the project’s formal launch by the Telengana chief minister planned this month, added the official.
Adriyala is touted as Asia’s biggest longwall project and will have a peak production level of 2.81 million tons per annum (mtpa). It involves an investment of Rs 846 crore and is the biggest project undertaken by SCCL so far.
The project will feed NTPC’s Ramagundam power station in Telangana.
