April 21: The Adriyala underground Longwall (LW) project of Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), the largest LW project in the country, has produced nearly 0.5 million tons (mt) of coal during the four months of its operations in 2014-15.
After a prolonged delay, the project started operations on a pilot basis in October 2014 but could not start commercial production until December due to some technical hitches.
“The project has stabilised operations. In March, it produced around 160,000 tons, the highest monthly production so far,” a senior official of SCCL told ICMW.
Earlier, the project produced around 100,000 tons per month during December-February, totalling more than 300,000 tons in the first three months of its operations.
The Adriyala project has a peak production capacity of 2.8 mt per annum.
