All villages to be electrified by May 2018, says govt

The Government of India has decided to do electrification in the remaining 18,452 un-electrified villages within 1,000 days or by May 1, 2018, an official release has said.

As part of this mission, 5,027 villages have been electrified across the country till date, including 245 villages, during the first week of February, the release added.

Out of the remaining 13,425 villages, 10,487 villages are to be electrified through grid, 1,997 are to be electrified through off-grid where grid solutions are out of reach due to geographical barriers and 941 villages are to be electrified through state government initiatives.

In order to expedite the progress further, a close monitoring is being done through the Gram Vidyut Abhiyanta (GVA) and various actions are also being taken on a regular basis, like reviewing the progress on a monthly basis, sharing of list of villages which are under an energisation stage with the state discom, identifying the villages where milestone progresses are delayed.
