Allocation of mines to states by June: Swarup

April 22: The Ministry of Coal (MoC) will allocate coal blocks to the state entities for commercial mining by June end, according to coal secretary Anil Swarup.

“Allocation will happen by June 30, 2015,” Swarup said during a recent interaction with the industry in Kolkata.

He said it was not yet decided which block will be offered to which state.

“I would presume the states that get allotment of blocks will not sell coal to small units in other states because there will be great requirement within the states,” he added.

The ministry had earlier this month announced that it will allocate a few blocks to some state entities for commercial mining, but has not disclosed any details so far.
