Alstom wins BHEL deal to supply supercritical boilers to NTPC’s Darlipalli plant

Power equipment manufacturer Alstom has won a contract worth 85 million from Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) to supply two 800MW supercritical boilers for Darlipalli Super Thermal Power Project (STPP) in Sundergarh, Odisha. This project forms part of NTPC Ltd's Bulk 800MW tender.

Under the scope of the contract, Alstom - the sole licensor for BHEL supercritical technology - will design the 800MW supercritical boilers and supply identified pressure parts along with windboxes, pulverizers and airpreheater components.

The company would also assist BHEL with technical advisors during the erection and commissioning of the units, a statement from the company said.

Key components will be manufactured in Alstom's facilities in Concordia and Wellsville in the US as well as in Durgapur and Shahabad in India. The units are expected to be commissioned starting in 2017.

"We are pleased to provide our superior and innovative supercritical power plant solutions for the prestigious Darlipalli project. Our solutions not only improve efficiency and operating flexibility, but also substantially reduce all emissions for each kw/h of electricity generated, including CO2. As a market leader with over 100 years of experience, Alstom is well positioned to offer its new and innovative power production solutions for the rapidly evolving energy market in India," Andreas Lusch, senior vice president of steam business at Alstom, said.
