Anhui six coal mines under construction
19 Aug 2015
East China’s Anhui province saw its six approved coal mine projects being constructed at present, with total capacity at 17.85 million tonnes per annum, the provincial Energy Administration said on August 17.
Average annual capacity of each mine stood at nearly 3 million tonnes, said the administration.
The construction of these large and medium-sized coal mines will be a sound support for stable supply and sustained development of its coal industry.
Anhui’s coal enterprises have suffered overall losses for two years amid the deteriorating domestic market. Total loss of the whole industry amounted to 7.1 billion yuan ($1.16 billion), compared with a loss of 2.4 billion yuan a year ago.
The province produced a total 133 million tonnes of coal in 2014, down 5.05% year on year, with average coal prices falling 20% on year.
Anhui closed 42 small coal mines in 2014, with eliminated outdated capacity at 4.31 million tonnes per year, which exceeded the initial plan of closing 21 small coal mines and eliminating 1.54 million tonnes of capacity at the start of 2014.
By end-2014, the province has 54 coal mines in operation, with capacity totaling 152.6 million tonnes per annum. Annual capacity of every single coal mine soared 79.4% from 1.6 million tonnes in 2013 to 2.88 million tonnes by end-2014.
The provincial government vowed to stop the approval of new mines below annual capacity of 900,000 tonnes. In 2014, it didn’t approve any coal mine projects with annual capacity below 1.2 million tonnes.
