Another disappointing week for Panamax; Index fell 5.4 % w-o-w

The BDI was slightly up by 2.65 pct closing at 774 points mainly because of Cape index which was up by 10.85 pct closing at 1461 points.

Another disappointing week for Panamax segment. The index was down 5.40 per cent to 683 points week over week on 23 October 2015. While the Supramax index was down 1.52 per cent for the same period closed at 648 points. The handy size index was also lost 3.72 per cent closed at 362 points.

The Vistaar shipping reported that, the Supramax market remaining flat in this week and the main coal route in Asia from Indonesia to India remains in the US$ 7000 per day bss passing through Singapore, while. The Panamax vessels were rating around US$ 6000 per day delivery shanghai.

According to Vistaar shipping, as per the current trend, the next week freight rates are expected to be flat to soft.

The average charter rate for Cape was at US$ 9405 per day in this week and for Panamax at US$ 5469 per day. The Supramax was report at US$ 6778 per day and Handy size/US$ 5256 per day. According to Vistaar, the for three years (2015-2018) futures rates were at around US$ 14000 per day for Cape, US$ 8500 per day for Panamax, US$ 8500 per day for Supramax and US$ 7000 per day for Handy size.

The S8 route for Supramax vessels were slightly down this week or fell 0.52 per cent week over week to US$ 5584 per day (last week US$ 5613 per day).

Vistaar shipping is forecasted that, the trend of next week’s freight rates from Indonesia to India will be flat to soft and no improvement compared to last week’s trend.

The Brent crude oil prices was down by 1.29 pct week over week to US$ 48.08 per barrel (last week US$ 48.71 per barrel) on week ending 23 October. The bunker prices also softened and closed at US$ 232.50 pmt (IFO 380 CST ex Singapore on 23rd Oct 2015).
