A volume of 16,581 tons of anthracite was imported through Kolkata Port in April 2016 against 26,400 tons in March 2016, showing a month-on-month drop of 37.92%, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
Total imports of the material in fiscal 2015-16 were at 168,452.
Anthracite import volumes have been very volatile throughout last fiscal.
In April, volumes were lower by 57% year-on-year against 38,665 tons seen in the same month of the last fiscal.
Following is the break-up of anthracite coal imports via Kolkata Port in 2016-17 & 2015-16:

In April 2016, 16,500 tons came in from Russia at a unit price of Rs 5,163 ($77) and the balance 81 tons from China at Rs 16,440 ($246)/ton.
In March 2016, all the consignments came in from Russia at a price range of Rs 5,633 – Rs 5,663 ($84) per ton.
