Imports of coal from South Africa’s (SA’s) Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) by African and Asian countries, excluding India, were up 20.79% to 22,649,508 tons during fiscal 2015-16, compared to 18,751,711 tons recorded in the previous fiscal, according to data available with ICMW.
However, imports of coal from RBCT by African and Asian countries, excluding India, were down 4.13% on a month-on-month basis at 1,580,638 tons in March 2016 from 1,648,799 tons exported in February 2016.
Meanwhile, imports of coal from RBCT by African and Asian countries, excluding India, stood at 4,953,837 tons during Q4 (January-March, 2016) of fiscal 2015-16, down 11.38% as compared to 5,590,183 tons during Q4 of fiscal 2014-15.
However, imports of coal from RBCT by African and Asian countries, excluding India, were up by 19.97% in calendar 2015 (January-December) at 23,694,706 tons from 19,751,031 tons exported in calendar 2014.
Imports by the region in March 2016 were down by 15.44% compared to 1,869,164 tons seen in March 15.
The following table gives details of coal imports from RBCT by Asian and African countries in the first three months of calendar years of 2015 and 2014 (January-march) and for the financial year 2014-15 and 2015-16 (in tons):
