Aug coking coal imports via New Mangalore sharply up

September 22: Coking coal imports through New Mangalore Port during August 2014 rose sharply by almost 2.5 times to 61,470 tons from 25,000 tons recorded in July 2014, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
In August 2013, coking coal imports via the port stood at 14,500 tons.
Total imports of coking coal through New Mangalore Port in April-August, 2014-15 stood at 177,806 tons against 214,855 tons recorded in the same period of the previous financial year.
Following is the monthly break-up of coking coal imports via New Mangalore Port in 2014-15 and 2013-14 (in tons):

In August 2014, 15,000 tons came from Australia at a price range of Rs 8,893-Rs 9,061 ($147-$148) per ton whereas the rest of 46,470 tons came from Mozambique at a price of Rs 7,865 ($127) per ton.
However, during July 2014, the entire quantity came in from Australia at a price range of Rs 6,208-Rs 8,893 ($103-$147) per ton.
