August coking coal imports via Vizag drop 40% m-o-m

September 11: Coking coal imports through the port of Vizag dropped almost 40% to 285,250 tons in August 2014 against a volume of 473,991 tons in July, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
In August 2013, coking coal imports through Vizag Port stood a little higher at 322,327 tons.
With this, in the first five months of the current financial year (2014-15), coking coal imports through the port stood at 2,126,233 tons against 2,598,366 tons imported during the same period in 2013-14.
Following is the monthly break-up of coking coal imports via Vizag Port in 2013-14 and 2014-15:

In August, imports comprised 239,398 tons from Australia in a price band of Rs 6,586 – Rs 8,245 ($109-135) per ton while the balance 45,852 arrived from the US at Rs 8,317 ($134-137) per ton.
In July, imports included 421,702 tons from Australia in a price band of Rs 6,708 – Rs 8,340 ($112-138) per ton, 50,940 tons from the US in a band of Rs 8,192 – Rs 8,274 ($135-136) per ton while the balance 1,348 tons came in from New Zealand at a unit price of Rs 7,936 ($132).
