August steam coal imports through Kolkata surge m-o-m

September 25: Steam coal import levels through the port of Kolkata surged manifold to 25,500 ton in August 2014 against 5,700 tons reported in July, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
In August 2013, the imports were much higher at 203,365 tons.
Steam coal imports through the port in the first five months of the current fiscal were at 43,800 tons against a volume of 1,473,291 tons in the same period of the previous fiscal.
Total imports of the material for the entire financial year of 2013-14 were at 1,735,675 tons.

In August, imports comprised 13,400 tons from Australia in a band of Rs 4,382 – Rs 4,465 ($72-73) per ton while the balance 12,100 tons arrived from South Africa in a range of Rs 5,732 – Rs 6,056 ($93-99) per ton.
In July, imports comprised two consignments from South Africa in a range of Rs 5,308 – Rs 6,363 ($87-105) per ton.
