September 20: Steam coal imports through the port of Vizag declined by a sharp 54% to 190,870 tons in August 2013 against 414,061 tons recorded in July 2013, as per provisional data available with ICMW.
With this, import of steam coal in the first five months (April-August), 2013-14 stood at 1,394,904 tons, against 2,053,814 tons registered during the corresponding period of 2012-13.
Following is the monthly break-up of steam coal imports via Vizag port during 2012-13 and 2013-14:

Note: The April 2012 numbers are the combined import figures of Vizag and Gangavaram port whereas the rest are standalone from Vizag.
In August 2013, the entire consignment arrived from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 2653-Rs 4881 ($44-$82).
During July 2013 too, the entire consignment came in from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 2,464–Rs 5,252 ($41-$87) per ton.
