Aurizon has reaffirmed its full-year production guidance despite the recent weather impacts of Tropical Cyclone Ita, after lifting its coal volumes in the March quarter by 11 per cent year-on-year.

 

In the three months to March 31, Aurizon total coal haulage was 48.6 million tonnes, an 11 per cent increase on the 43.6mt posted in the corresponding period.

 

On the back of the coal result, Aurizon said its guidance for fiscal 2014 remained unchanged at 207mt-212mt, factoring in the weather impacts from Tropical Cyclone Ita.

 

Iron ore haulage volumes also increased, adding 14 per cent year-on-year to come in at 7.5mt in the quarter.

 

The group said the result was consistent with its ramp-up towards full contractual railings of 30mt in fiscal 2014.

 

The increase in coal volumes offset a three per cent decline in freight volumes during the quarter, with nickel volumes down six per cent linked to supply issues for one customer due to the Indonesian government's embargo on the commodity's export.
