BHEL commissions 7 projects of 2,470 MW in March

In the last month of the current financial year (till March 30), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has commissioned seven power projects of 2,470 MW, including five thermal power projects, one hydro power and one super-critical thermal power project, as per official releases.

The Bihar project, located in the Aurangabad district, is a greenfield 1,000-MW Nabinagar thermal power project (4x250 MW), being set up by Bhartiya Rail Bijlee Company Limited (BRBCL), a joint venture of NTPC Limited and Indian Railways. One unit of 250-MW was commissioned on March 30.
Just two days back, on March 28, the PSU started the second unit of the 40-MW hydro-electric generating station at the Teesta Low Dam Hydro Electric Project (HEP) Stage-IV in West Bengal. The first unit of the same project was started in February 24, 2016.
Out of seven projects, the largest one is a 700-MW super-critical thermal unit at Bellary thermal power project (TPP) in Karnataka. The project was commissioned on March 4.
Out of all the projects, one was related to renovation. On March 14, the 110-MW, seventh unit at Barauni, Bihar was started after renovation and modernisation (R&M). After renovation the working life has been extended by another 15-20 years. The project was first commissioned in 1985.
