Barmer Lignite gets EC nod for expansion of Kapurdi project

September 23: Barmer Lignite Mining Company Ltd (BLM) has obtained environmental clearance (EC) for its revised mining plan and mine closure plan for the expansion of the Kapurdi lignite opencast block project.
The company was granted the terms of reference (ToR) in February 2014 and obtained EC on September 22, according to data released by the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF).
The Kapurdi block is located in the Barmer district of Rajasthan and had achieved its rated capacity of 3 million tons per annum in 2012-13. Subsequently, the company had applied for expansion of the project up to 3.75 mtpa.
The total geological reserves of the block are at 150.40 mt, of which the mineable and extractable reserves are 129.79 mt.
