December 17: Sutirtha Bhattacharya, set to become the new chairman of Coal India Ltd (CIL), may get the final order to join the coal monolith within a week’s time, an informed source told ICMW.
“Generally, it takes about three weeks since the day of recommendation. In this case, we expect the final order to come by in another week or so,” the source said.
Bhattacharya’s name was recommended by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) on November 19. PSEB had held interviews of 12 candidates, including three from CIL, in New Delhi on November 18.
Asked if vigilance clearance may cause delay, the source said, “We don’t think so.”
Bhattacharya is currently working as the chairman-cum-managing director of Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL). Once he gets the final order, SCCL would approach the Telengana government for his replacement, the source said.
