Bid to avert 5-day strike by coal officials

To prevent coal workers from going ahead with the five-day strike starting January 6, assistant chief labour commissioner, R C Srivastava called a meeting of Coal India officials and representative of all the five central trade unions here at his office on Sunday.
Terming the protest action unprecedented in the history of coal industry, all the central trade unions joined hands against coal block allocation ordinance and privatization of coal mines.
While briefing the press, Srivastava said, "Representative of all the trade unions and Coal India officials have been called for a meeting. We will try to address the grievances of coal workers and avert such a situation. Afte all, strike is not the only solution."
General manager of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), D A Yadav, while talking to TOI said, "Let us see what happens on Monday. Our priority would be to avoid strike-like situation at any cost as it would be a big loss to the company with the power sectors being the worst-hit".
