Biomass units get coal reprieve till March 2017

March 31: The standing linkage committee (SLC) – Long Term- has recommended resumption of coal supplies to biomass-based plants as per the previous arrangement prevailing before March, 2014 in view of a recent order passed by Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC).

The supply of coal to such plants was stopped by CERC through an order issued on March 18, 2014.

The supplies to such plant as per existing arrangement may continue till March 31, 2017 in view of the CERC order dated January 5, 2015.

The committee, however, refused to grant fresh linkages to biomass-based plants till the coal availability position improved and the proposed new policy on grant of fresh linkages was formulated.
