Block de-allocation will impact consumers: Monnet
21 Oct 2014
October 21: The iron and steel, cement and power sectors all would be significantly impacted by the coal blocks de-allocation, Amitabh Mudgal, President, Marketing & Corporate Affairs, Monnet Ispat & Energy Limited to ICMW.
“This would adversely impact costing of all these plants as they would have to rely on more expensive coal from external sources to meet their fuel requirements. The effect of this will not only be restricted to these plants alone but its ripple effect will be observed on the entire industry and economy of the country as a whole,” he said.
According to Mudgal, “We understand that while briefing the Supreme Court, the attorney general has assured the court that the government is ready with all the consequences. However, we hope this is the time for the government to let the industry know on its preparedness.”
Immediate coal linkages should be provided by the government to the operational or soon-to-be-operation plants, he further added.
