Bokaro villagers protest against coal smugglers

Locals used stones to stop five dumpers carrying illegal coal and vandalized them on Kanjkiro road of Bermo sub-division on Tuesday. They later informed the police who seized 100 tonnes of illegal coal from the dumpers. A team led by Bermo DSP Rajkumar Mehta and magistrate Dilip Tuddu lodged an FIR against the owners and drivers of the dumpers.
"The coal from the dumpers appears to be from CCL, Kathara colliery. We are investigating it and will lodge an FIR against the CCL officials and its security personnel in this connection. The coal can't be transported outside the CCL mines without their connivance. Villagers have also complained that Maa Tara coke factory in the area is an important nexus between coal smugglers and CCL mines. We have sealed the factory and seized its documents. We have also started inquiry on it," said the DSP.
There were 12 dumpers carrying the illegal coal, but seven of them managed to give a slip. Sources said that the mafia involved in the illegal coal trading tried to release the dumpers by threatening the villagers, but failed.
