April 27: A somewhat buoyant demand was witnessed for coal offered under the forward e-auction scheme of Coal India Ltd (CIL) on the MSTC platform during March, according to information available with ICMW.
A total of around 108,000 tons were offered under the scheme by CIL subsidiary South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) during the month for delivery of which a hefty 91% or 99,000 tons got allotted.
The transactions took place at a weighted average price of Rs 2,950 per ton.
In forward e-auction, only consumers are allowed to participate wherein bookings are allowed for delivery during various quarters of a particular financial year from a particular subsidiary whereas in spot auction anyone, including traders, can participate.
In fact, the last forward e-auction on the MSTC platform had taken place in November 2014, when 71,600 tons had been allotted. Here too, information on the subsidiaries’ names and offered quantities were not available.
