CBI to file final reports in coal cases on March 26

CBI is likely to file final reports on Wednesday in five cases related to alleged irregularities in allocation of coal blocks before competent courts.

Highly placed sources said agency will most likely be filing final reports on Wednesday in five cases but refused to divulge whether a closure report could also be filed in one of the cases registered by the agency. The sources also said that agency is in final stages to decide on a registering a fresh case against a sponge iron company which got a coal block in Chhattisgarh.

The sources said executive of the company has been examined today at the agency headquarters as sleuths wanted some clarification from the company.

CBI will also be intimating the Supreme Court about the progress in the coal scam probe in its status report to be filed before the Supreme Court on Friday. The agency has already filed its first chargesheet in the coal scam against Hyderabad based Navbharat Power, its chairman P Trivikrama Prasad and vice chairman Y Harish Chandra Prasad.

It will also inform the apex court the statement given by advisor to Prime Minster Manmohan Singh TKA Nair in connection with the scam. CBI has filed over 16 FIRs which included those against AMR Iron and Steel, JLD Yavatmal Energy, Vini Iron and Steel Udyog, JAS Infrastructure Capital Pvt Ltd, Grace Industries, Jindal Steel and Power, Rathi Steel and Power Ltd, Jharkhand Ispat, Green Infrastructure, Kamal Sponge, Pushp Steel, Hindalco, BLA Industries, Castron Technologies and Castron Mining and Nav Bharat Power Private Limited.

These FIRs were registered after the agency probed three preliminary enquiries related to coal block allocation between 2006 and 2009, 1993 and 2004 and projects given under a government scheme.
