CCL’s Amrapali project dedicated to nation

July 14: The prestigious Amrapali mining project of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL), was dedicated to the nation by Minister of State for Coal, Power and New & Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal on July 11.

The Amrapali mine project, which recently started production, will initially have a peak rated capacity of 12 million tons per annum (mtpa), which can be extended up to 30 mtpa for which a project report (PR) is under preparation by CMPDI.

The project, with mineable reserves of 291.1 million tons and life of 30 years, was conceived during the Tenth Plan (2007-2012) with a sanctioned capital of Rs 858.11 crore, but the revised cost as on June 2014 is estimated at Rs 1,100 crore.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman and Managing Director of CCL, Gopal Singh, said along with three other adjoining mines, as much as 100 million tons of coal could be produced, which can generate around 20,000 MW of power.

Secretary (Coal) S K Srivastava said Coal India Ltd (CIL) and its subsidiaries are committed to maximising coal production and coal availability for the economy, especially the power sector, and added that the government will take measures to increase production of coal in the country.
