CCO to collect additional levy from prior allottees

December 18: The central government has authorized the Coal Controller Órganisation to collect the amount of additional levy of Rs 295 per ton for already mined coal from the prior allottees of the 42 operational coal mines.

Names of the 42 operational blocks were mentioned in Schedule II of the Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Ordinance 2014.

In an order issued later December 17, the Ministry of Coal said the CCO has been authorised to collect the additional levy on behalf of the central government in accordance within the timelines specified in Rule 18 of the Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Rules, 2014 and deposit the same in the government account.

The CCO has been asked to inform the ministry about the progress of allocation by the first week of January 2015.
